Food for Me Lesson 1: The Building Blocks of Meals and Snacks
In this lesson, students practise creating meals and snacks that feature foods from the Canada’s Food Guide (CFG) Plate.
Activities:
🔍 Knowledge Stations and Inquiry Circuits
This introductory activity encourages students to move around the room and engage in collaborative learning. It also gives you valuable insights into their current knowledge and questions about food and nutrition.
🍽️ Build Your Own Meals and Snacks
Food for Me promotes variety by recommending foods from the three CFG food categories at meals and from at least two categories at snacks; specific quantities aren’t prescribed. This adaptation helps students personalize their meals and snacks based on the CFG Plate. We recognize that challenges such as access to resources, income, and family stressors can affect the ability to follow CFG recommendations. This activity supports progress, not perfection.
