The Canada's Food Guide Plate: Grades 4–6
Lesson 1 of A Guided Discovery of Canada’s Food Guide challenges students to explore the Food Guide plate and think critically about how their learnings apply to real-world scenarios. Students explore the three Food Guide categories (vegetables and fruits, whole grain foods, and protein foods), the importance of hydration, and why eating a variety of foods every day matters. This lesson is designed specifically for grades 4 to 6 and supports key outcomes in the Alberta and Saskatchewan curriculums. With an easy-to-use slide deck, detailed facilitator notes, and an interactive e-learning activity, everything you need is ready to go – no prep required.

- An e-learning activity for students to explore independently or in groups.
This is the first lesson in the A Guided Discovery of Canada’s Food Guide program. We recommend starting with this lesson to the stage for deeper learning. From here, feel free to complete the other four lessons with your students in whatever order works best for you.
